Over the next several weeks, we are going to explore Jewish and Christian scriptures regarding our calling and vocations; what we often refer to as our "work." Here's the homework or applied practical take-away: Sit down this week and write down all of the jobs you've held over your entire life. Remember co-workers, hard moments, learning experiences, etc. How has God taught you about yourself and God's world in the midst of the different work you've participated in? Share this with a friend, your spouse, or children. Don't forget the Barney Story I told (when I dressed like Barney, remember?).

Here's a quote from John Coltrane (yes, that Coltrane): “During the year 1957, I experienced, by the grace of God, a spiritual awakening which was to lead me to a richer, fuller, more productive life. At that time, in gratitude, I humbly asked to be given the means and privilege to make others happy through music. I feel this has been granted through His grace. ALL PRAISE TO GOD. . . . This album is a humble offering to Him. An attempt to say ‘THANK YOU GOD’ through our work, even as we do in our hearts and with our tongues. May He help and strengthen all men in every good endeavor.”

P.S. Over the next 6 weeks, I'm continuing an experiment called "Take Your Preacher to Work Day"--if you want to nominate someone for this, please e-mail me. I won't be able to do all of them, but I am learning a great deal about the work you are doing in our city in Jesus name. I love Otter Creek!

Peace,
Josh
