The season of Advent is an intentional time of year in which churches of every denomination all over the world pause to rehearse the story of God in history into the stories that are our lives.

Advent is to take seriously that which God has done in order to train our eyes to see what God will do.

Personally, this month has become the richest time of year for it pulls me beyond the shallow commercialism and sentimentality of the marketing production that Christmas has become in our nation. Eggnog and new scarves are great, but give me the mystery of God coming into the backwaters of Galilee. There's life in that. All. Day. Long.

God has ruptured our story. And we have never been the same.

Advent brings us to back to who we really are. And where we really are in God's world.

I am personally thankful for this--yet another gift--of the church.

Peace,
Josh
