We All Fall Down

Passage: 2 Kings 19:19
Destruction usually happens slowly. Destruction usually happens by a thousand paper-cuts. It's not the one big thing that ruins a nation or person . . .it's the slow pain of set-back and hurt over time. It's a million little destructions; a thousand losses; a hundred confessions.
This is what happens to Israel. Kings struggle. Prophets preach. The people sway back and forth . . . moving from God to idolatry . . . sometimes doing both at the same time.
God never stands still. Though patient, God's always at work. Finally, God's had enough. The Nation is taken. The city (the place where Messiah will come from) is destroyed.
The life Israel had been preparing for, by the grace of God, had been taken from them. The city fell to pieces.
And ever since that city, we've had a longing for the city to come.
Ever since leaving the Garden, we've had this intense longing to go home because home is God.
God is out in front of us. Calling us to himself. Will we keep walking towards him? Only if we believe that our destruction is also part of our salvation.
