DEPRESSION AND THE LOVE OF GOD
Lee Camp
- Depression- depressive disorder affects all aspects of life, including relationships with family, friends, and community. It involves a depressed mood or loss of pleasure or interest in activities for long periods of time. Discuss your experiences with depression whether personally or through a friend or family member's experience.
- John 5:2-9 Man at the Pool for 38 years. When Jesus encounters the man, he first attends to his issues at hand, his physical and mental issues from being in one place for such a long time. Jesus spoke to the traumas and stresses of his life. See how Jesus approaches his issue? Discuss Jesus’s approach to this man’s 38-year ordeal.
- How have you, in your lifetime, chosen to “take your mat and get up”?
- “Do you want to be well?” Interrogated by God’s grace. Do you recall a time where you may have been interrogated by God’s grace? Discuss your experience.
- In Scripture, God deals with depression, anxiety, burnout, and many other things, such as the case with the man at the pool. Discuss other biblical stories of God helping people through life's traumas and stress. Ex: Woman at the Well- John 4; Elijah- 1 Kings 19
