Worth Every Penny
Jesus tells a story that has been told many times in many different languages: the story of the pearl of great price. In Greek, it's just 21 words--one long sentence.
He tells the story of a merchant (perhaps a pearl expert) in search of fine pearls. Apparently, this guy is in hot pursuit of many pearls. Yet, he finds a showstopper. He finds one pearl (think here of blood diamonds in Africa) that is so captivating, so valuable, so intoxicating . . .that he no longer a) desires to have numerous pearls or b) needs to keep searching.
He found what he'd been looking for all along. Although, like most of us, he didn't know that this pearl was what he'd been searching for. Sometimes, you don't know what you are in search of until you find it. Or, as in my experience, I didn't know what exactly I was in search of (Jesus) until Jesus found me.
Because it is worth every penny to have that which cannot be bought.
Peace,
Josh
